Hope Angel
The house into which Hope was born was draped in danger and despair. Hope’s father is an abusive alcoholic and her mother is schizophrenic. Hope’s two older brothers had already been taken away from the family because of abuse and neglect. Born into this hell, Hope seemingly had no chance for a happy life.
Indeed Hope’s schizophrenic mother, listening to the voices that ruled her life, chopped off Hope’s feet at the ankles when the baby was only a few days old. A neighbor, hearing the helpless cries of the dying baby, rushed Hope to a nearby hospital. It was, however, too late and the bleeding baby arrived at the hospital without a pulse. Doctors and nurses tried to save her, but the blood loss was too severe and her heart could not be revived. Hope was dead. A young doctor would not give up and miraculously, Hope’s tiny heart started beating. After a long recovery period, they called Michael.
Michael H. is an American, who at the age of 50, decided that his life needed meaning and moved to Nepal. Seeing the poor state of Nepali orphans, Michael found his calling and opened an orphanage. Several years later, that calling now includes 5 orphanages housing over 140 children.
When Hope arrived at one of Michael’s orphanages, Michael’s life exploded with love. “I thought that after loving 140 children as deeply as I did, that I had very little room left for love in my heart,” Michael said. “But when I saw Hope, I learned that the human heart has an infinite capacity for love.” Love can do all things so Michael named the baby Hope. There are men like Michael H. in this world.
