Happy Holi!
Holi is a Hindu festival that is celebrated at the beginning of spring. Having never participated in the Holi festivities we did not really know what to expect. We have seen pictures of people dancing and covering each other with different colored tika powders. The doctors told us to wear something old, or buy a white t-shirt, as our clothes would be ruined.
We spent the morning visiting with our friend Shailee and her children, Princess, Babu & Jasmine before heading off to experience the craziness of the revelers. The street at Lakeside Pokhara was alive with dancing, singing and most of all – color! It was unlike anything we have ever experienced before and Rene joined in the party by dancing in the streets. By the afternoon we were fully covered with colored tika and stopped to pick up the bags and blankets that we had ordered from Tara Timilsina at Chetana Women’s Development.
