Monday morning featured a flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. The flight skirts along the edge of the Himalayan Mountains and we were treated to beautiful views due to evening rain the night before the flight. This trip, from start to finish, will never cease to amaze us. We spent the afternoon shopping for gifts in Thamel – the busy tourist center that we love.

On Tuesday we met Shree, Elsie & Ramesh and headed off to the Capital FM 92.4 radio station for the interview. Sunita, the radio hostess was so beautiful and sweet and the interview went very well. Elsie & Ramesh were off on their motorbike while we went out to find a copy of the local paper that had pictures of the Health Camp in Rupakot.

We met Elsie and Ramesh for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Thamel, The Roadhouse Café, to do a wrap up of the Health Camp and see where we can make improvements next year. Elsie James is truly an inspirational woman and we are so fortunate to have met and worked with her. She celebrated her 75th birthday by trekking to Mt. Everest Base Camp with several of her best friends. She told us how difficult it was, even though she had done this trek many times before. Ramesh would not let her give up and kept encouraging her to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. I told her that had I met her before that trip I would have joined the celebratory trek. Then Elsie looked at me and said, “well, my 80th birthday is in November…” I don’t think she will be trekking to base camp for that birthday because she will not be able to return to Nepal until next year, but if she does, who knows?
